I was really inspired by the way Rainer uses very rough brushstrokes and marks over the black and white photographs. Of quite graphic faces pulling: scary, shocked, angry-expressive faces, usually with there eyes closed. All of the images are quite harrowing which is then heightened with the black, red and yellow marks he has drawn over them. He often draws of the eyes or other key facial features like the mouth which suggests he is making the model anonymous. I tried to recreate this idea when I drew over my own photographs.
Bruce Nauman
I find Naumans use of body parts in his work very interesting. I took alot of inspiration from his 'Hologram' series for my own photographs. I also edited them so that they had this faded sepia tone and a strong contrast between light and dark. I also tried to recreate they exaggerated way the faces are being pulled. The lips are being pulled around by the hands and look really disproportionate to the face, although the scale has not been changed. I also notice how the eyes are not shown, just the bottom half of the face, maybe suggesting like Rainer that he wants the model to remain anonymous. I also like how he worked with hands and the way some of the fingers are broken off and interlocking together.
Raoul Hausman
I found Hausmanns collages really interesting and the way he uses body parts and faces intrigued me. He uses a limited colour palette which I used in my own work and I also like the way he uses black and white photography and newspaper clippings, this creats an old and sepia effect to his work. He uses repeats of bodies and sometimes changes the face which makes an individual body out of balance and intersting to look at. He also sometimes makes the figure anoymous, like Rainer and Nauman, by cutting away the mouth and the eyes or blocking out the facial features completely. This theme of making the model anonymous has really influenced me in my own work.
